“Night poured over the desert. It came suddenly, in purple. In the clear air, the stars drilled down out of the sky, reminding any thoughtful watcher that it is in the deserts and high places that religions are generated. When men see nothing but bottomless infinity over their heads they have always had a driving and desperate urge to find someone to put in the way.
In December we ventured to the desert. We soaked up sunlight, asked questions, found answers and more questions. We saw a million cactuses, 2 beautiful sunsets from the ground, and on the flight back the most heart stopping view of the setting sun above the clouds. On this trip I discovered that there’s a certain indescribable magic of the desert, a feeling that can be detected in the moment but when looking back it all becomes a haze. I think that the desert climate simultaneously shows the ingenuity of human nature and its ability to thrive but also shows its limits. We humans cannot conquer everything, we cannot make settlement everywhere, and even in 2017 we must step aside for mother natures presence.
