If these mountains had eyes they would have woken to find two breathless young girls standing at their bases, peering up in awe. They would have seen two adventurers, desperately trying to collect every moment, tricking them into their lenses and holding onto them forever. If these mountains, who had seen so much and stood for so long had opened their eyes to gaze down upon us, they would not be forever changed by our presence, but we have been forever changed by theirs.
There is a timelessness to these images, fitting as there is a timelessness to these mountains. This is why we needed to shoot black and white 4×5 film, not because it had never been done, but because it had. This is the beginning of our own personal chapters of photo history. We start in the past, learn from the greats, then go on to write our own legacies.
